Before moving to Turkey, M.J. González taught Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) and introductory courses in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as ELE courses at the Cervantes Institute in Chicago. After relocating to Turkey, she taught ELE at Bilkent International School in Ankara and later at Koç University and the Cervantes Institute in Istanbul. She has also served as an external examiner for the DELE, IB Language B, and CEMS examinations. Since 2002, she has been a faculty member at the School of Foreign Languages at Boğaziçi University.
